Finite semifields and nonsingular tensors (Q1951223)

The study of finite semifields took up after the classification of finite fields at the end of the nineteenth century. In this paper an overview of the classical results in the theory of finite semifields is given with a particular accent on classification results. The second part of the paper is devoted to the geometric approach to finite semifields. Semifield spreads are investigated following the theory developed by André, Bruck and Bose. The third part of the paper is devoted to a tensor product approach to finite semifields. The correspondence between semifields and non singular tensors is elaborated. Finally connections between non singular tensor associated to a semifield and Segre varieties are explained. A rich and useful bibliography completes the paper. References for an exhaustive state of the art are given.
