Let \(X\) be a metric space and let \(\pi:X\times{\mathbb R}_+\to X\) be a continuous semi-dynamical system. Consider a subset \(M\) of \(X\) and a continuous mapping \(I:M\to X\). It is assumed that for any \(x\in X\) such that the positive trajectory of \(x\) intersects \(M\) there exists a smallest \(s(x)>0\) such that \(\pi(x,s(x))\in M\). Then the trajectory of such a point \(x\) in the corresponding impulsive system \((X,\pi,M,I)\) is defined as follows. Start at the point \(x_0\) and let the trajectory equal \(\pi(x_0,t)\) for \(0\leq t<s(x_0)\). Then set \(x_1=I(\pi(x_0,s(x_0)))\) and start at the point \(x_1\), and so on. The authors use Lyapunov type functionals to give sufficient conditions of stability and asymptotic stability for invariant sets of the system \((X,\pi,M,I)\).
