Let \({\mathcal V}\) and \({\mathcal W}\) be right vector spaces over a fixed division ring. The set \({\mathcal L}({\mathcal V})\) of all linear endomorphisms on \({\mathcal V}\) is a ring while the set \({\mathcal L}({\mathcal V},{\mathcal W})\) of all linear transformations from \({\mathcal V}\) into \({\mathcal W}\) is a natural \({\mathcal L}({\mathcal W})\)-\({\mathcal L}({\mathcal V})\) bimodule. The main results investigate finitely generated left \({\mathcal L}({\mathcal W})\)-submodules and finitely generated right \({\mathcal L}({\mathcal V})\)-submodules of \({\mathcal L}({\mathcal V},{\mathcal W})\) in terms of spans of images and intersections of kernels. It is shown, for example, that if the span of images of operators in a given right \({\mathcal L}({\mathcal V})\)-submodule \({\mathcal I}\subseteq {\mathcal L}({\mathcal V},{\mathcal W})\) has finite dimension then \({\mathcal I}\) is finitely generated. Similar conclusions are derived if the intersection of kernels of operators in a left \({\mathcal L}({\mathcal W})\)-submodule \({\mathcal I}\subseteq {\mathcal L}({\mathcal V},{\mathcal W})\) has finite codimension. The paper concludes with the classification of \({\mathcal L}({\mathcal W})\)-\({\mathcal L}({\mathcal V})\) bimodules in terms of a rank function.
