The derivation of the nonlinear heat equation from a microscopic model of a solid can be viewed as an open problem in statistical thermodynamics. In this paper, the author introduces simplified microscopic models of a solid and studies analytically the inherent fluctuations of energy at a thermodynamic equilibrium via the consideration of a fluctuation field and via the application of a diffusive rescaling of space and time, which means that the heat conduction process is described stochastically at a mesoscopic scale. Although Theorem 1 and Corollary 1 are of independent interest, the reader might ask whether the macroscopic coefficient of heat conduction can be derived as a function of temperature from the mesoscopic model, which would be a step towards empirical validation of the presented microscopic models.
