The author computes the value of certain embedding capacities of balls and cylinders. The results are of two distinct types: Some are related to Lagrangian embeddings while the others concern embedding of manifolds as contact-type submanifolds. Let us describe them more precisely. Given an open set being either a symplectic ball or a cylinder, the author manages to compute the maximum, over a certain class of Lagrangian embeddings into the open set, of the minimal area of smooth disks having their boundary on the Lagrangian. Two distincts results are obtained: one for the class of embeddings of tori (products of standard circles of possibly different radius) and the other for the class of monotone Lagrangians embeddings of submanifolds in \(\mathbb{R}^{2n}\) that admit a metric of non-positive sectional curvature. The argument is based on Ekeland-Hofer capacities. The other type of results are some estimates on the smallest action of a null-homologous Reeb link of a contact embedding of a unit sphere bundle of a Riemannian manifold. The estimates are obtained for the ball and the cylinder of dimension at least 4.
