Let all groups mentioned be finite, \(p\) a fixed prime, \(G\) have a noncyclic Sylow \(p\)-subgroup of order exceeding \(p^e\), where \(e\geq 3\). A subgroup \(H\subseteq G\) is said to be S-semipermutable in \(G\) if \(HQ=QH\) for all Sylow \(q\)-subgroups \(Q\) of \(G\) for all primes \(q\) not dividing \(|H|\). S-semipermutability has been investigated recently by the second author [in Arch. Math. 102, No. 1, 1-6 (2014; Zbl 1297.20018)]. Concerning \(p\)-supersolvability there have been numerous research papers, such as recently by \textit{V. O. Lukyanenko} and \textit{A. N. Skiba} [J. Algebra Appl. 9, No. 1, 17-26 (2010; Zbl 1188.20018)]. The main result of the paper is that if every noncyclic subgroup of \(G\) of order \(p^e\) is S-semipermutable in \(G\), then \(G\) is \(p\)-supersolvable. The original idea came under the stronger assumption that every noncyclic subgroup of order \(p^e\) is normal and from the statement of possible independent interest that if \(P\) is a \(p\)-group with \(|P|>p^e\), the group \(A\) acts on \(P\), every noncyclic subgroup of \(P\) of order \(p^e\) is stabilized by \(O^p(A)\) then \(P\) is centralized by \(O^p(A^*)\), where \(A^*\) is the unique smallest normal subgroup of \(A\) with factor group abelian of exponent dividing \(p-1\).
