In this article, the authors consider two types of PDE of elliptic type. Firstly, they consider the problem \[ (-\Delta)^mu=\frac{|u|^{p_{\alpha}-2}u}{|x|^{\alpha}}+\lambda u\text{, }x\in\Omega \] subject to the Dirichlet boundary conditions \[ D^{\beta}u\big|_{\partial\Omega}=0\text{, for }|\beta|\leq m-1. \] They then consider the same problem but equipped with a Navier-type boundary condition of the form \[ \Delta^ju\big|_{\partial\Omega}=0\text{, for }0\leq j\leq m-1. \] In each case, we have that \(\Omega\subseteq\mathbb{R}^{n}\) is a smooth bounded domain with \(n>2m\), \(0\in\Omega\), \(0<\alpha<2m\), \(\lambda\in\mathbb{R}\) a parameter, and \(p_{\alpha}:=\frac{2(n-\alpha)}{n-2m}\). Putting \(\Lambda_{m,1}\) equal to the first Dirichlet eigenvalue of \((-\Delta)^m\) in \(\Omega\), the authors obtain a variety of results about the Dirichlet problem -- namely, among these that for \(n\geq 4m\) the problem has a nontrivial weak solution \(u\in H_0^m(\Omega)\), for any \(\lambda\in\left(0,\Lambda_{m,1}\right)\). Other results include that: (i.) if \(2m+1\leq n\leq 4m-1\), then there exists \(\Lambda^*\in\left(0,\Lambda_{m,1}\right)\) such that for any \(\lambda\in\left(\Lambda^*,\Lambda_{m,1}\right)\) it holds that the Dirichlet problem admits a nontrivial weak solution \(u\in H_0^m(\Omega)\); and (ii.) that if \(2m+1\leq n\leq 4m-1\) and \(\Omega\) is taken to be the unit ball in \(\mathbb{R}^{n}\), then there exists \(\Lambda_*\in\left(0,\Lambda_{m,1}\right)\) such that the Dirichlet problem admits no positive weak solution whenever \(\lambda\in\left(0,\Lambda_*\right]\). Analogous results are obtained for the Navier problem.
