Based on the theory of iterated function systems, the authors develop a class of rational cubic fractal interpolation functions for the purpose of shape preserving approximation. The fractal interpolation functions contain two parameters that allow to control various features of the shape of the functions. An error analysis is provided and numerous examples demonstrate the influence of changes in the parameters.
