The authors consider a class of ultra-parabolic Kolmogorov-type operators of the form \[ {\mathcal L}=\frac12 \sum_{i=1}^{p_0} \delta_{x_ix_i} + \sum_{i,j=1}^d b_{ij}x_j \partial_{x_i}+\partial_t,\quad (t,x)\in \mathbb R\times \mathbb R^d \] satisfying the Hörmander condition. An intrinsic Taylor formula is proved with global and local bounds for the remainder given in terms of the norm in the homogeneous Lie group naturally associated to the differential operator.
