In this work, the authors study the following singular problem \[ -\left( r^\alpha \left| u^\prime (r) \right|^\beta u^\prime(r)\right)^\prime =\frac{\lambda r^\gamma f(r)}{\left( 1-u(r)\right)^2},\, 0<r<1 \] \[ 0\leq u(r) <1,\,0<r<1, \] \[ u^\prime(0)=u(1)=0, \] where \(\lambda >0\), \(\alpha\), \(\beta >-1\) and \(\gamma\) are real constants and \(f\) is a continuous positive function over \((0,1)\) satisfying \( 0<\int_0^1 r^\gamma f(r) dr<+\infty\). According to the choice of the parameters \(\alpha\), \(\beta\) and \(\gamma\), the differential operator corresponds to the radial form of the Laplacian, the \(p\)-Laplacian and the \(k\)-Hessian. Let \(\lambda^\ast\) denote a critical value for the existence of solutions. The authors consider regularity of solutions including the case \(\lambda =\lambda^\ast\) and which depends on the choice of parameters \(\alpha\) and \(\beta\). In case the critical solution is regular, there exists another, classical, solution, of a mountain pass type for \(\lambda \in \left(\lambda^\ast -\delta ,\lambda^\ast\right) \). Finally, using the shooting method the authors prove uniqueness of a solution for \(\lambda\) close to 0. Moreover, they obtain uniqueness whenever \(u^\ast\) is singular.
