The non-autonomous dumped harmonic oscillator \[ \ddot{x}+h(t)\dot{x}+x=0 \] is considered for \(h \in C^1[t_0,\infty)\). Two classical results on asymptotic behavior of linear equations found in \textit{W. A. Coppel}'s classic [Stability and asymptotic behavior of differential equations. Boston: D. C. Heath and Company (1965; Zbl 0154.09301)] are used to establish necessary and sufficient conditions for the length of a phase curve of a nontrivial solution to be finite (infinite) in the sense of classical differential geometry.
