The authors deal with a parameterized singularly perturbed delay differential problem, where a small positive parameter \(\varepsilon\) appears which is known as singular perturbation parameter. When \(\varepsilon\) decreases, standard numerical methods on uniform meshes are not adequate for computing the solution of the considered differential problem owing to the layer behavior of the solution. Here a hybrid difference scheme is proposed to compute the solution. Then, the authors extend an approach already presented by them, to derive a general error bound which allows to conclude uniform convergence of \(\mathcal{O}(N^{-2}\ln ^{2}N)\) on Shishkin meshes and \(\mathcal{O}(N^{-2})\) on Bakhvalov meshes, where \(N\) is the number of mesh intervals in the domain. A reported numerical experiment confirms the established theoretical bounds.
