In this paper the authors introduce a blossoming procedure for polynomials related to the Askey-Wilson operator. This blossom is symmetric, multiaffine, and reduces to the complex representation of the polynomial on a certain diagonal. This Askey-Wilson blossom can be used to find the Askey-Wilson derivative of a polynomial of any order. The authors also introduce a corresponding the Askey-Wilson Bernstein basis for which this new blossom provides the dual functionals. As applictaions of their theory, they give a new proof of Rogers \(_6\phi_5\) summation formula and a very-well-poised \(_8\phi_7\) summation formula due to Jackson. Maybe it's worth pointing out that in the paper [\textit{Z.-G. Liu}, Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 147, No. 6, 2349--2363 (2019; Zbl 1411.05033)] the reviewer used the Askey-Wilson polynomials to provides a new proof of the Nassrallah-Rahman integral and then extended these methods to derive a twelve-parameter \(q\)--beta integral which includes many important \(q\)-transformation formulas as special cases.
