A mapping \(T\) between two normed spaces \(\mathcal{X},\mathcal{Y}\) is called a 2-local isometry if, for every \(x,y\in \mathcal{X}\), there exists a surjective linear isometry \(T_{x,y}\colon\mathcal{X}\to\mathcal{Y}\) such that \(T_{x,y}(x)=T(x)\) and \(T_{x,y}(y)=T(y)\). This notion was introduced by \textit{P. Šemrl} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 125, No. 9, 2677--2680 (1997; Zbl 0887.47030)], who investigated 2-local automorphisms and 2-local derivations on \(B(H)\), where \(H\) is a separable Hilbert space. In the present paper, the authors study the the 2-local isometries between the Banach algebras \(\mathrm{Lip}(X,d)\) and \(\mathrm{Lip}(Y,\rho)\) of Lipschitz functions from \((X,d)\) to \((Y,\rho)\), where \((X,d)\) and \((Y,\rho)\) are compact metric spaces. The norms in the corresponding Banach algebras of Lipschitz functions are the maximum of the Lipschitz and the uniform norms. It is shown that, if \(T\) is a 2-local real uniform isometry, then \(|T (1_X)| = 1_Y\) and \(T\) is a real homogeneous uniform isometry, which is real linear provided that \(T\) is further surjective. Also, they ``give a complete description of 2-local real and complex uniform isometries between \(\mathrm{Lip}(X, d)\) and \(\mathrm{Lip}(Y,\rho)\), respectively, and show that every 2-local real and complex uniform isometry between \(\mathrm{Lip}(X, d)\) and \(\mathrm{Lip}(Y,\rho)\) is a surjective real and complex linear uniform isometry, respectively.''
