This paper is concerned with the existence of \(H^1\) solutions to the nonlinear Schrödinger equation on \(\mathbb R^N\): \(\partial_t u=i\Delta u+\lambda|u|^{\alpha}u,\) where \(N\geq1,\lambda\in\mathbb{C}, \mathfrak{R}\lambda>0\) and \(\alpha>0\) with \((N-2)\alpha<4.\) The authors construct \(H^1\) solutions which are defined on \((-T, 0)\) for some \(T>0,\) and blow up on \(K\) at \(t = 0.\) This construction is based on an appropriate ansatz. The initial ansatz is simply \(U_0(t, x) = (\mathfrak{R}\lambda)^{-\frac{1}{\alpha}}(-\alpha t+A(x))^{-\frac{1}{\alpha}-i\frac{ \mathfrak{J}\lambda}{\mathfrak{R}\lambda}}\), where \(A(x)\geq 0\) is a solution of the ODE \( u'=\lambda|u|^{\alpha}u,\) vanishing exactly on \(K.\) The authors refine this ansatz inductively, by using ODE techniques. The proof of the main result is accomplished by employing energy estimates and a compactness argument.
