In a series of papers [Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 39, S149--S186 (1986; Zbl 0619.10052); Commun. Pure Appl. Math. 40, No. 4, 401--420 (1987; Zbl 0648.10034); Combinatorica 8, No. 3, 261--277 (1988; Zbl 0661.05035)], \textit{A. Lubotzky} et al. obtained the construction of infinite families of \((p+1)\)-regular Ramanujan graphs, for prime \(p \equiv 1 \pmod{4}\) and topological generators of the group \(PU(2)\) with optimal covering properties, which have been generalized to the notion of the golden gate. In the paper under the review, the authors study this problem for the group \(PU(3)\). For odd prime \(p\), they construct a family of arithmetic lattices which act simply-transitively on the Bruhat-Tits buildings associated with \(PGU_3(\mathbb{Q}_p)\). This enables them to obtain a golden gate set for \(PU_3(\mathbb{Z}) \setminus PU(3)\) and the Schreier graph which is a one-skeleton of a two-dimensional Ramanujan complex. Assuming a conjecture related to the level of representations in a local A-packet of \(U_3\), the authors also obtain a golden gate set for \(PU(3)\) and the Cayley graph which is a one-skeleton of a two-dimensional Ramanujan complex.
