The author carries out a study of the existence and multiplicity of geodesics joining two points for a family of nonstatic Lorentzian manifolds, called the family of generalized Reissner-Nordström intermediate (GRNI) spacetimes. A GRNI spacetime is given by a fiber bundle with base a real interval, endowed with a negative definite metric and fibers consisting of a pair of Riemannian manifolds; the metric of the bundle is a doubly warped product by two positive functions depending only on the real variable. Examples of this kind of structure are the inner Schwarzschild spacetime, and the intermediate zone of the Reissner-Nordström spacetime. The main result of the paper is that such a manifold is geodesically connected if the fibers are strongly convex, i.e., if any two points in the fibers can be joined by a minimizing geodesic. Moreover, the author proves an Avez-Seifert type result by giving a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of a timelike (or causal) geodesic between two points.
