Any permutation \(\theta\) of a finite group \(G\) for which the mapping \(x\mapsto x^{-1}\theta(x)\) is a bijection is called an `orthomorphism' of \(G\); and two orthomorphisms \(\theta,\varphi\) are said to be `orthogonal' if the mapping \(x\mapsto\theta(x)^{-1}\varphi(x)\) is a bijection. Sets of mutually orthogonal orthomorphisms of \(G\) lead to sets of mutually orthogonal Latin squares (MOLS) of order \(|G|\). The author shows that the cyclic group of order \(m\) admits a pair of orthogonal orthomorphisms provided that \(m>3\) is odd and not divisible by 9; this is new for multiples of 3. Using this he also obtains a pair of orthogonal orthomorphisms for some classes of dihedral and linear groups.
