    The momentum of scattering orbits for large time in classical as well as in quantum mechanics is studied. Let \(S(x,\lambda)\) be a solution of the eikonal equation which behaves like \(\sqrt\lambda| x|\) at infinity, let \(\gamma(\lambda)=p-\nabla S\). Then on any orbit \(\gamma(\lambda)=O(t^{-1})\), \(\nabla S(x,\lambda)\gamma(\lambda)=O(t^{-2})\) for \(t\to \infty\). This can be generalized to the quantum mechanical case using the pseudodifferential operator \(\overline\gamma=p-\overline{\nabla S}:\) \[ \langle x\rangle^ \ell\overline\gamma^{\alpha(m)}e^{-itH}f(H)\langle x\rangle^{- m}=O(t^{-m+\ell+\varepsilon})\quad\text{ for } t\to\infty \] for any \(\varepsilon>0\) and \(\ell\) with \(m>\ell\geq 0\), \(f\in C_ 0^ \infty(\mathbb{R}^ +)\), \(H=-\Delta+V\), \(\langle x\rangle=(1+| x|^ 2)^{1/2}\), and also the resolvent estimate \[ \|\langle x\rangle^{m- \delta}\overline\gamma^{\alpha(m)}R(\lambda+i\varepsilon)f(H) \langle x\rangle^{-m-\delta}\|\leq C \] for all \(\lambda,\varepsilon>0\), \(R(z)=(H-z)^{-1}\). Finally radiation conditions are obtained for any \(\delta>1/2\): \(\langle x\rangle^{1- \delta}\gamma(\lambda)R(\lambda+iO)\langle x\rangle^{-1-\delta}\) is bounded and \(\langle x\rangle^{2-\delta}\{\nabla S(x,\lambda)\gamma(\lambda)+\gamma(\lambda)\nabla S(x,\lambda)\}R(\lambda+iO)\langle x\rangle^{-2-\delta}\) is bounded.
