Let \(\zeta(s)\) denote the Riemann zeta-function. For each natural number \(n\), define the quantity \[ \lambda_n=\sum_\rho \left(1-\Big(1-\frac{1}{\rho} \Big)^n\right) \] where the (conditionally convergent) sum runs over the nontrivial zeros \(\rho\) of \(\zeta(s)\). Then a well-known theorem of \textit{X.-J. Li} [J. Number Theory 65, No. 2, 325--333 (1997; Zbl 0884.11036)] states that the Riemann hypothesis holds if and only if \(\lambda_n\geq 0\) for each \(n\geq 1\). It is known that \(2 \lambda_1 = \gamma-\ln(4\pi)+2 = 0.0461914 \ldots\) where \(\gamma\) is Euler's constant. The purpose of the paper under review is to give a representation for \(\lambda_1\) which is ``obviously'' positive. Letting \(N_1(m)\) denote the number of ones in the binary representation of the number \(m\), the author shows that \[ \lambda_1 = \sum_{m=3}^\infty \frac{2N_1(m)+3}{4m(2m+1)(2m+2)} \] which is an infinite sum of positive summands. The author remarks that it is an intriguing problem to find representations of \(\lambda_n\) as (multiple) sums with positive summands for other values of \(n\).
