The elements of a unitary matrix \((u_{ik})_{i,k=1,\dots,N}\) satisfy the relation \[ \sum_{i=1}^N |u_{ik}|^2=\sum_{k=1}^N |u_{ik}|^2=1. \] The elements of each row (column) can be associated to some probabilities, and this allows to define the Shannon entropy. By mapping the indices of a row (column) on pair of indices, the authors obtain an analog of the marginal distributions. It is known that the Shannon entropies associated with these marginal distributions satisfy the subadditivity condition. The matrix elements of the irreducible unitary representations of \(\mathrm{SU}(2)\) and \(\mathrm{SU}(1,1)\) groups can be represented in terms of Jacobi, Legendre and Gauss hypergeometric polynomials. The authors obtain for these special functions new inequalities from the entropic inequalities.
