    Let \(D\) be an open unit disk in the complex plane \(\mathbb{C}.\) Regularity properties of harmonic mappings \(f : D \rightarrow \mathbb{C}\) under additional constraits are studied, i.e. \(f\) is sense preserving and a harmonic Bloch mapping. The latter means that \(\Vert g \Vert_{hB} = \sup_{z \in D}\{(1 - \vert z\vert ^2)\Lambda_f(z)\} < \infty\) where \(\Lambda_f(z) \) stands for the maximum of the directional derivative of \(f\) at \(z\). In the ordinary Bloch space of analytic functions \(g\), \(\Vert g \Vert_B = \sup_{z \in D}\{(1 - \vert z\vert ^2)\vert g'(z)\vert \} < \infty \), and hence the harmonic Bloch space is a generalization of the analytic Bloch space. A further generalization is a harmonic Bloch type harmonic mapping \(f\) which satisfies \(\sup_{z \in D}\{(1 - \vert z\vert ^2) J(z,f)^{1/2}\} < \infty\). Each function in the harmonic Bloch space is of Bloch type because \(J(z,f)^{1/2} \leq \Lambda_f(z)\). The estimate \(\vert (1 - \vert z\vert ^2)\vert \vert g'(z)\vert - (1 - \vert w\vert ^2)\vert g'(w)\vert \vert \leq 3^{3/2}2^{-1} \rho(z,w)\Vert g \Vert_B \) holds in the analytic Bloch space, see \textit{C. Xiong} [Period. Math. Hung. 47, No. 1--2, 233--238 (2003; Zbl 1063.30006)]. Here \( \rho(z,w) = \vert w-z\vert /\vert 1-\overline{w}z\vert \) is the pseudo-hyperbolic distance in \(D\). The authors prove a similar estimate in the harmonic Bloch space where \(\vert g'(z)\vert \) is replaced by \(\Lambda_f(z) \), \(\Vert g \Vert_B\) by \(\Vert g \Vert_{hB}\) and the constant \(3^{3/2}2^{-1}\) by \(3^{3/2}\), respectively. It is also shown that a harmonic quasiregular mapping \(f\) is of the Bloch type if and only if it belongs to the harmonic Bloch space. This makes it possible to obtain a similar estimate as above for this class of mappings where the right side of the estimate also depends on \(K\) from the quasiregularity inequality \(\Lambda_f(z)^2 \leq K \, J(z,f)\).
