The authors investigate the structure of a 3-manifold under the assumption of the existence of an embedded area-minimizing 2-sphere of positive Gaussian curvature. The motivation to obtain rigidity results is the positive mass theorem which states that an asymptotically flat 3-manifold has non-negative Arnowitt-Desser-Misner mass. The authors of this article generalize here the results by \textit{D. Máximo} and \textit{I. Nunes} [Commun. Anal. Geom. 21, No. 2, 409--433 (2013; Zbl 1273.53053)] for the charged case, or the Reissner-Nordstrom-De Sitter space; see also [\textit{H. Bray} et al., Commun. Anal. Geom. 18, No. 4, 821--830 (2010; Zbl 1226.53054)]. The authors deduce an estimate for the area of a 2-sphere which is locally area minimizing on time-symmetric initial data set for the Einstein-Maxwell equation. If the equality holds, then there exists a neighborhood that is isometric to a charged Nariai space.
