Using the Guo-Krasnoselskii fixed point theorem in the context of expansive and compressive cones theory, the authors obtain an existence result for the solution of a generalized coupled system of integral equations of Hammerstein type. Such integral equations contain sign-changing kernels and nonlinearities depending on several derivatives of both variables in different orders. An application is considered. This refers to a coupled system of beam equations modeling the bending of the road-bed and the cable in suspension bridges.
