A classification of non-commutative projective quantum 3-spaces is equivalent to a classification of Artin-Schelter regular algebras of global dimension 4. The aim of the paper is to construct a large new class of these algebras, namely the class of double Ore extensions. Suppose that \(A\subset B\) is an extension of connected graded associative algebras over a field \(k\) such that \(B\) is generated over \(A\) by two homogeneous elements \(x_1,x_2\) of positive degrees. It is assumed that \[ x_2x_1\in kx_1x_2+kx_1^2+Ax_1+Ax_2+A,\quad x_1x_2\in kx_2x_1+kx_1^2+x_1A+x_2A+A \] and \(B\) is a free left and right \(A\)-module with bases consisting of monomials \(x_1^{n_1}x_2^{n_2}\) and of \(x_2^{m_1}x_1^{m_1}\), respectively. Then \(B\) is a double Ore extension of \(A\). The authors consider the case of the extension \(B\supset A\) when \(A\) is an Artin-Schelter regular algebra of dimension 2. It is shown that \(B\) is strongly Noetherian, Koszul, Auslander regular and a Cohen-Macaulay domain. More information on \(B\) is obtained in the case when \(B\) is not an Ore extension of an Artin-Schelter regular algebra \(A\) of dimension 3.
