The authors consider the Einstein metrics on generalized Wallach homogeneous spaces. If \(G\) is a semi-simple compact Lie group and \(H\) is a closed Lie subgroup of \(G\) then the space \(G/ H\) is called a generalized Wallach space if the orthogonal complement \(\mathfrak{p}\) of the Lie algebra \(\mathfrak h\) of \(H\) with respect to the metric \(<.,.>=-B\), where \(B\) is the Killing form on the Lie algebra \(\mathfrak g\) of \(G\), is a direct sum of three ad(H) invariant modules \(\mathfrak{p}_i, i=1,2,3\) which are pairwise orthogonal with respect to \(<.,.>\) and such that \([\mathfrak{p}_i,\mathfrak{p}_i]\subset\mathfrak h\). Every generalized Wallach space admits a 3-parameter family of invariant Riemannian metrics determined by inner products \((. ;.) = x_1< . , . >_ {|\mathfrak{p}_1} + x_2<. , .>_{|\mathfrak{p}_2} + x_3<. , .>_{|\mathfrak{p}_3} \) where \(x_1, x_2\) and \(x_3\) are positive real numbers. All invariant Einstein metrics on the generalized Wallach spaces were classified with the exception of \(\operatorname{SO}(k+l+m)/ \operatorname{SO}(k)\times \operatorname{SO}(l)\times \operatorname{SO}(k)\). The authors study the Einstein metrics on \(\operatorname{SO}(k+l+m)/ \operatorname{SO}(k)\times \operatorname{SO}(l)\times \operatorname{SO}(k)\). They prove the following. Theorem 1.2. Suppose that \(k\ge l\ge m\ge2\) and \(l\ge2\). Then the number of invariant Einstein metrics on the space \(G/H = \operatorname{SO}(k + l + m)/\operatorname{SO}(k) \times \operatorname{SO}(l)\times \operatorname{SO}(m)\) is \(4\) for \(m >\sqrt{2k + 2l-4}\) and 2 for \(m <\sqrt{k + l}\), up to a homothety. Theorem 1.3. Let \(q\) be any number from the set \(\{2, 3, 4\}\). Then there are infinitely many homogeneous spaces \(\operatorname{SO}(k + l + m)/\operatorname{SO}(k)\times \operatorname{SO}(l)\times \operatorname{SO}(m)\) that admit exactly \(q\) invariant Einstein metrics up to a homothety.
