    The author considers the system of ordinary differential operators, the noncommutative harmonic oscillator, \[ Q^w_{(\alpha ,\beta )}(x,D)=A\left(-\frac{\partial _x^2}{2}+\frac {x^2}2 \right)+J \left(x\partial _x+\frac 12\right),\;x\in\mathbb R, \] where \[ A= \begin{pmatrix} \alpha &0\\0&\beta \end{pmatrix}, \;J= \begin{pmatrix} 0&-1\\1&0 \end{pmatrix}, \;\alpha ,\beta \in \mathbb R_+,\;\alpha \beta >1, \] and shows that the spectrum of this selfadjoint operator, which is discrete, satisfies the asymptotics \[ \text{Spec}(Q^w_{(\alpha ,\beta )}(x,D))\subset \bigcup_{k\geq1} \left[\frac\pi Tk-\frac{C_0}k,\frac\pi Tk+\frac{C_0}k \right], \] where it is assumed that there are \(m_+,m_-\in \mathbb N\) (in lowest terms) such that \(m_+T_+=m_-T_-=:T\), with \[ T_\pm=\int_0^{2\pi}\frac{d\theta }{\mu_+\pm\sqrt{\mu_-^2+\sin^2(2\theta )}} \] and \(\mu_\pm=(\alpha \pm\beta )/2\), and where \(C_0\) is a generic constant. For the proof, the author uses the fact that \(Q^w_{(\alpha ,\beta )}(x,D)\) is a globally elliptic pseudodifferential operator and employs the theory of pseudodifferential operators.
