Let \(X\) be a germ of a holomorphic vector field in \(\mathbb C^2\) with an isolated singularity at \(O\). It is known after \textit{C. Camacho} and \textit{P. Sad} [Ann. Math. 115, 579--595 (1982; Zbl 0503.32007)] that there exists at least one (irreducible) separatrix \(S\) for \(X\) passing through \(O\). A very natural question is then whether the knowledge of some numerical invariants of \(X\) and \(S\) implies the existence of other separatrices for \(X\) at \(O\). In the paper under review, the author deals with this problem, finding a sufficient condition based on the Camacho-Sad index, generalized to singular curves by \textit{T. Suwa} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 123, 2989--2997 (1995; Zbl 0866.32016)]. More detailed, he proves that, in case \(O\) is not a dicritical singularity for \(X\), if the Camacho-Sad index of \(X\) along \(S\) is not positive rational nor zero, then there exists another separatrix \(S'\) for \(X\) at \(O\). If the separatrix \(S\) is nonsingular at \(O\), such a result is essentially already contained in the original paper by Camacho and Sad. In case \(S\) is singular at \(O\), the proof of the result relies on a clever inductive argument based on the blow-ups after blow-ups study of the Seidenberg resolution/resolution of singularities of \(S\) tree. Using results of \textit{M. Abate} [Duke Math. J. 107, 173--207 (2001; Zbl 1015.37035)] and of this reviewer [Ann. Sc. Norm. Super. Pisa Cl. Sci. (5)2, 493--520 (2003)], the author shows that his argument applies to the case of holomorphic diffeomorphisms, showing existence of petals for germs of holomorphic diffeomorphisms pointwisely fixing a (possibly singular) curve \(S\) and acting tangentially on it, in case the index is not positive rational nor zero.
