The aim of the paper is to investigate how the nodal sets of the eigenfunctions of the Laplacian on the standard flat torus \(T^d=\mathbb R^d/\mathbb Z^d\) vary when the eigenvalue increases. Specifically, the problem whether a given hypersurface can lie on infinitely many nodal sets is studied. It is shown for \(d=2\) that this holds true only for segments of closed geodesics. The main result of the paper proves that in higher dimensions a hypersurface with nowhere zero Gauss-Kronecker curvature cannot lie within the nodal set of any eigenfunction corresponding to a sufficiently large eigenvalue. Relevant geometric constructions are presented in the proofs and the appendix.
