A construction of two-dimensional Buchsbaum simplicial complexes
In Higher Comb., Proc. NATO Adv. Study Inst., Berlin 1976, 51-62 (1977; Zbl 0376.55007), \textit{R. P. Stanley} characterized the \(h\)-vector of a \((d-1)\)-dimensional Cohen-Macaulay simplicial complex over a field as a so-called \(O\)-sequence. A corresponding characterization for a \((d-1)\)-dimensional Buchsbaum simplicial complex is an open problem. There is a conjecture for such a characterization posed by \textit{N. Terai} [see Hokkaido Math. J. 25, 137-148 (1996; Zbl 0867.13005)]. Terai constructed also for certain values of vertices two-dimensional Buchsbaum complexes whose \(h\)-vector satisfy an extremality condition. The \(f\)-vector of such a complex is called a lower bound sequence. The author of the present paper constructs two-dimensional Buchsbaum complexes with any numbers of vertices whose \(f\)-vector forms a lower bound sequence.
