A mathematical simulation of high temperature induction heating of electroconductive solids

From MaRDI portal

Numerical simulation of non-stationary coupled electromagnetic and thermal processes in polarizable and magnetizable electro-conductive solids subjected to an electromagnetic field generated by external currents is performed. The electromagnetic field in the solid and in the external medium is described by Maxwell's equations. Temperature evolution in the solid is governed by the classical heat transfer equation. The model takes into account the temperature dependence of all material coefficients and the non-linear dependence of induction on the strength of both electrical and magnetic fields. In a course of computations these dependences are approximated by interpolation splines constructed by real curves. Typical finite-element discretization over spatial variables is applied. Different time steps for electromagnetic and temperature calculations are used. High-temperature induction heating of finite electric-conductive cylinder located in coaxial inductor is simulated as an example. Numerical results indicate the necessity to account the temperature dependencies of electric and magnetic characteristics.
