A mechanical model for mesenchymal morphogenesis

We have constructed a mathematical model of traction-producing cells migrating within an elastic matrix, and we find that such a system is capable of exhibiting a surprising amount of self-organizing behavior. We briefly summarize the model equations and report on how we have applied them to a number of morphogenetic situations.
