A singular double phase eigenvalue problem with a superlinear indefinite perturbation

From MaRDI portal

Let $\Omega \subseteq \mathbb{R}^N$ be a bounded domain with a $C^2$-boundary $\partial \Omega$. The authors consider the following singular Dirichlet problem \N\[\N\begin{cases}-\Delta^a_{p} u(z)-\Delta^1_{q} u(z)=\lambda \beta(z)u(z)^{-\eta} +f(z,u(z)) \quad\mbox{in } \Omega, &\\\Nu \Big|_{\partial \Omega} =0, \, \lambda>0, \, u > 0, \, 0<\eta<1<q<p.& \end{cases} \N\]\NFor $a \in C^{0,1}(\overline{\Omega})\setminus \{0\}$ and $1<r<+\infty$, by $\Delta^a_{r}$ we denote the weighted $r$-Laplace differential operator defined by \N\[\N\Delta^a_{r} u= \mbox{div }(a(z)|\nabla u|^{r-2}\nabla u) \mbox{ for all }u \in W_0^{1,r}(\Omega).\N\]\NThereby, the equation is driven by the sum of two such operators with distinct exponents $p$ and $q$ (double phase problem). The perturbation $f(z,x)$ is a locally Lipschitz function in the second variable, and exhibits $(p-1)$-superlinear growth as $x \to +\infty$, but need not satisfy the usual in such cases Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz condition, furthermore it may change sign (indefinite perturbation). In addition, the reaction presents the effects of a parametric singular term $\lambda \beta(z)u(z)^{-\eta}$.\N\NThe solution strategy combines variational tools, truncation and comparison techniques and critical groups. Thereby, the authors establish a bifurcation-type result, that is, they conclude the existence and multiplicity of solutions, as well as the non-existence result, depending on the parameter $\lambda>0.$ Let us remark that the authors also obtain the boundedness of solutions.
