This article establishes a relationship between scalar and matrix Gegenbauer/Ultraspherical polynomials, transforming previously unsolvable problems into accessible ones. The explicit connection formulas obtained yield certain relations for matrix-valued polynomials, which were not well known until now and are of great interest, such as new symmetry properties of matrix-valued polynomials, recognition of patterns of zero entries in matrix-valued polynomials, and generating functions, as well as a curious differential-differential framework.\N\NThe creative use of telescoping in a matrix setting is innovative and deserves attention, as it may lead to similar results for other families of classical polynomials. The work extends the computational accessibility of orthogonal polynomials with matrix values and opens up promising directions for applications in analysis and representation theory. Overall, this is a substantial and technically sound contribution to the theory of orthogonal matrix polynomials.
