Analysis of the beta-logarithmic function and its properties

From MaRDI portal

Motivated by various earlier extensions of the classical beta function, the authors define a new extended beta function and introduce a new type of beta-logarithmic function. With the help of this beta-logarithmic function, they discuss new types of hypergeometric, confluent hypegeometric functions and some of their properties are investigated. A statistical application of the new beta-logarithmic function is also investigated, by defining beta-logarithmic distribution, mean, variance and moment generating function. In the proofs, the classical logarithmic inequality \(G<L<A\) for the logarithmic mean \(L=L(a,b)\) of two variables, as well as well known inequalities (as Young's inequality) are applied among others. The exact statements of results are too complicated to be stated here.
