Canonical elements for collision orbits
From MaRDI portal
Abstract: I derive a set of canonical elements that are useful for collision orbits (perihelion distance approaching zero at fixed semimajor axis). The coordinates are the mean anomaly and the two spherical polar angles at aphelion.
The author defines a new set of canonical elements, suitable for the description of Keplerian orbits with high eccentricity, which remain well-defined for collision orbits. He uses spherical angular coordinates of the unit vector pointing to the aphelion of the orbit as new coordinates, and supplies a generating function for canonical transformation from Delaunay elements to the new ones.
