Discrete reflexivity in topological groups and function spaces

From MaRDI portal

A topological property is said to be discretely reflexive (in a class of spaces) if a space (from the class) has the property iff the closure of every discrete subspace has the property. For example, compactness is reflexive in the class of all spaces, see the \textit{V. V. Tkachuk} [Trans. Mosc. Math. Soc. 1988, 139--156 (1988; Zbl 0662.54007); translation from Tr. Mosk. Mat. O.-va 50, 138--155 (1987)].\par In the present paper the author obtains results on discrete reflexivity in the class of spaces of the form \(C_p(X)\). \par Notable results: if there are no \(S\)-spaces then countable character, countable weight, and countable network weight are all discretely reflexive in these spaces, whereas an example by \textit{V. V. Tkachuk} [Bull. Belg. Math. Soc. - Simon Stevin 22, No. 1, 1--14 (2015; Zbl 1316.54007)] shows that this may also be consistently false for the first two properties.\par The paper contains further results under the assumption that the space \(C_p(X)\) is a Lindelöf \(\Sigma\)-space, and a list of open questions on this subject.
