Doubly transitive equiangular tight frames that contain regular simplices

From MaRDI portal

The paper studies binders of equiangular tight frames (ETFs), i.e., the collections of index subsets whose vectors form regular simplices. Building on the triple-product characterization of simplices, the authors relate the existence/structure of binders to symmetry: for a doubly transitive ETF (DTETF), they prove that the binder is either empty or else forms a balanced incomplete block design (BIBD), and in the latter case, every simplex in the binder of the Naimark complement corresponds to an oval of that BIBD. They then apply this general principle to concrete DTETF families arising from finite symplectic geometry. In particular, for symplectic ETFs, they explicitly compute the binder of the dual as the set of all affine Lagrangian subspaces and derive the corresponding BIBD parameters, thereby unifying earlier special cases and correcting a previously stated conjectural parameter formula. Finally, they analyze DTETFs obtained from quadratic forms over \(\mathbb{F}_2\), identifying which subfamilies have nonempty binders and describing nontrivial relationships between the resulting designs and the symplectic/Lagrangian ones.
