Eventual periodicity of the Smith forms of integer matrix powers
From MaRDI portal
The author solves a conjecture posed by \textit{R. R. Brunner} [MathOverflow post, \url{https://mathoverflow.net/questions/131373/smith-normal-form-of-powers-of-a-matrix} (2013)] concerning the periodicity of the Smith form of a matrix. Namely, denoting by \(\mathrm{SF}(M)\) the Smith form of a square integer matrix \(M\), he proves that there exist a natural number \(n_0\), a positive integer \(T\), and a scalar integer matrix \(D\) such that for any \(n\geq n_0\) we have \(\mathrm{SF}(A^{n+T})=D\cdot\mathrm{SF}(A^n)\).
