Fano threefolds

From MaRDI portal

This paper presents lecture notes on the classification of smooth Fano threefolds. The author gives a systematic exposition of the modern approach to Fano varieties, including basic properties, the role of the Fano index, and tools from Mori theory and extremal ray techniques. The main focus is the classification of smooth Fano threefolds with Picard number \(\rho(X)=1\), organized according to the value of the index. The cases of index \(\iota(X) \geq 3, \iota(X)=2\) (del Pezzo threefolds), and \(\iota(X)=1\) are treated, leading to the known finite list of deformation types. The text also includes exercises and appendices reviewing background material.
