Geometry of infinite dimensional Cartan developments

This paper extends the Cartan development from finite-dimensional to infinite-dimensional settings. Indeed, in finite-dimensional setting, the Cartan development associates a Lie algebra-valued \(1\)-form on a simply connected manifold \(M\) satisfying the Maurer-Cartan equation a smooth map from \(M\) into a Lie group \(G\). The authors generalize this construction to the case where both \(M\) and \(G\) are infinite dimensional, assuming that \(G\) is a regular Lie group with Lie algebra \(\mathfrak{g}\). The Cartan development is identified as a generalization of the evolution mapping used to integrate smooth curves in \(\mathfrak{g}\).\N\NFor a simply connected pointed manifold \((M,x_0)\), the authors prove the existence and uniqueness of a smooth evolution operator mapping flat \(\mathfrak{g}\)-valued \(1\)-forms (flat in the sense that they satisfy the left Maurer-Cartan equation) to smooth maps into \(G\). The regularity assumption is essential, as general existence results for ordinary differential equations fail in infinite dimensional contexts. Furthermore, it is shown that the tangent map of a Cartan development is again a Cartan development.\N\NThe paper also establishes that the space of flat differential forms \(\Omega_{\mathrm{flat}}^1(M,\mathfrak{g})\) admits a Frölicher Lie group structure. This group is proved to be isomorphic to the space of smooth pointed mappings \(C^\infty\bigl((M,x_0),(G,e)\bigr)\), which is, in general, only a Frölicher space and becomes a smooth regular Lie group when \(M\) is compact.
