Global hyperbolicity of sliced spaces

From MaRDI portal

Abstract: We show that for generic sliced spacetimes global hyperbolicity is equivalent to space completeness under the assumption that the lapse, shift and spatial metric are uniformly bounded. This leads us to the conclusion that simple sliced spaces are timelike and null geodesically complete if and only if space is a complete Riemannian manifold.

The paper discusses the connection between global hyperbolicity and space completeness. It is shown that for sliced spaces with uniformly bounded lapse, shift and spatial metric, global hyperbolicity and completeness are equivalent. If the spacetime is additionally trivial, i.e. lapse and shift are constant and the spatial metric is time-independent, it is also equivalent that the spacetime is timelike and null geodesically complete.
