Groups with restrictions on normal subgroups

From MaRDI portal

The paper studies the structure of groups with no elements of order two in which the normal closure of every two-generated subgroup is nilpotent of class at most 3 and establishes that such a group must be nilpotent of class at most \(4\). Additionally, the paper shows that removing the restriction on elements of order two leads to counterexamples.\N\NA Levi class is defined as follows: given a class of groups \(\mathcal{M}\), the class \(L_n(\mathcal{M})\) consists of groups in which the normal closure of every \(n\)-generated subgroup belongs to \(\mathcal{M}\).\N\NLet \(\mathcal{N}_c\) denote the class of all nilpotent groups of class at most \(c\). The main results include a proof that all inclusions in the chain\N\[\N\mathcal{N}_2 = L_3(\mathcal{N}_2) \subsetneq L_2(\mathcal{N}_2) \subsetneq L_1(\mathcal{N}_2)\N\]\Nare strict, demonstrating the progressive weakening of nilpotency conditions. It is also shown that for nilpotent groups of class at most \(3\) without elements of order \(2\), the inclusion \(L_2(\mathcal{M}) \subseteq \mathcal{N}_4\) holds.
