The Callan-Symanzik method is introduced in the description of anisotropic as well as isotropic Lifshitz critical behaviors. Renormalized perturbation theories are defined by normalization conditions with nonvanishing masses and at zero external momenta. The multiplicative renormalizability of the field-theoretic formulation at the critical dimension is proved. Editorial addendum: in the erratum (ibid. 324, No. 11, 2452), a corrected expression for the critical exponent \(\nu_{L4}\) is given.
