The author introduces the following linear version of the Lindelöf property. A Banach space \(X\) has the countable separation property (CSP) if each family \(\mathcal{E}\) of closed linear subspaces of \(X\) whose intersection is the zero space contains a countable subfamily \(\mathcal{E}_0\) with the same intersection. This property is closely related to the Kunen-Shelah property (which means that \(X\) has no uncountable minimal systems). It is well-known that the existence of a nonseparable Banach space with the Kunen-Shelah property is independent of ZFC. On the contrary, many of the known absolute Banach spaces, such as the Johnson-Lindenstrauss space or the James tree space, belong to the CSP class. A WCG space has the CSP if and only if it is separable. In the paper under review, many interesting properties of CSP spaces are presented. The paper contains some open problems. For example: Let \(X\) and \(Y\) have the CSP, does it follow that \(X\oplus Y\) has the CSP?
