The paper deals with the following periodic system of differential equations with non-monotonic response and time delays \[ \begin{aligned} x^{\prime}(t)& =x(t)f(t,x(t-\tau(t)))-g(t,x(t))y(t-\sigma_{1}(t)),\\ y^{\prime}(t)& =x(t)(-d(t)+h(t,x(t-\sigma_{2}(t)))), \end{aligned} \] which is a generalization of a Gause-type predator-prey system with type IV functional response and time delays studied by \textit{Y. Chen} [Nonlinear Anal., Real World Appl. 5, No.~1, 45--53 (2004; Zbl 1066.92050)]. Using the coincidence degree theory, the authors derive sufficient conditions for the existence of periodic solutions of the system under study. A number of corollaries and applications are also provided, including improvements of some of the results in the cited above paper.
