This long paper is mainly devoted to the analysis of (order) isomorphic copies of \(\ell^p\) for \(0<p<\infty\) and \(c_0\) in symmetrized quasi-Banach function lattices. The symmetrization \(E^{(*)}\) of a quasi-Banach function lattice \(E\) is the set of functions \(x\) such that their decreasing rearrangement \(x^*\) belongs to \(E\) with the quasi-norm \(\|x\|_{E^{(*)}}=\|x^*\|_E\). Lorentz spaces, Lorentz-Orlicz spaces and Lorentz-Marcinkiewicz spaces are examples of symmetric spaces that can be defined in this way. The technique developed in this paper is based on the study of the asymptotic relationships between certain types of basic sequences in \(E\) and \(E^{(*)}\). The main analysis on basic sequences in the spaces \(E\) and \(E^{(*)}\) is developed in Section 2. It is proved that every semi-normalized sequence in \(E^{(*)}\) that converges to \(0\) in measure has a basic subsequence in the space \(E_b\) consisting of non-negative decreasing elements; here, \(E_b\) is defined to be the closure in \(E\) of the linear subspace of bounded elements with supports in finite intervals. Conversely, such a sequence in \(E_b\) has a basic subsequence in \(E_0^{(*)}\) (the order continuous part of \(E^{(*)}\)) that is equivalent to a semi-normalized sequence which converges to \(0\) in measure. This and some consequences of this result are used to analyse the existence of isomorphic structures in the spaces; they allow to shift the analysis of these structures from \(E^{(*)}\) to \(E\). In Section 3, general conditions for the existence of subspaces or sublattices isomorphic to \(\ell^p\), \(0<p<\infty\), or \(c_0\), in order continuous rearrangement invariant quasi-Banach spaces are given. These conditions are given in terms of two cases that can hold: either the r.i. space \(X\) contains a normalized sequence that converges to \(0\) in measure that is equivalent to the unit vector basis of \(\ell^p\) (\(c_0\)), or \(X\) contains a certain special decreasing function, as \(t^{-1/p}\). The authors obtain interesting results regarding the existence of isomorphic copies of \(\ell^p\) or \(c_0\) in \(E^{(*)}\) by giving conditions on \(E\) using this technique. In the rest of the paper, the authors introduce a new class of Orlicz-Lorentz spaces, the so called two-weighted Orlicz-Lorentz spaces \(\Lambda_{\varphi,w,v}(I)\). This is done in Section 4, where sufficient conditions for such an space to be quasi-Banach space are also given. The class of these spaces contains the Lorentz and Orlicz-Lorentz spaces, the Marcinkiewicz and Orlicz-Marcinkiewicz spaces. The results obtained before are then used for analyzing the isomorphic structure of the spaces \(\Lambda_{\varphi,w,v}(I)\). The following natural questions related to the structure of these spaces are also posed and solved. {\parindent8mm \begin{itemize}\item[(a)] Does every lattice copy of \(\ell^p\) in \(\Lambda^0_{\varphi,w,v}(I)\) have an order copy in \(L_\varphi(0,\infty)\)? \item[(b)] Does every lattice copy of \(\ell^p\) in \(\Lambda^0_{\varphi,w,v}(I)\) have an order copy in \(L_\varphi(I)\) for the same \(I\)? \item[(c)] Conversely, is every lattice copy of \(\ell^p\) in \(L_\varphi(I)\) isomorphic to a sublattice of \(\Lambda^0_{\varphi,w,v}(I)\)? \end{itemize}} In Section 6, spaces over finite intervals \((0,a)\) are analysed, for which a positive answer to question (b) is given, and some results on (a) and (c) under some assumptions are also given. They provide a lot of results for this case; for instance, every infinite-dimensional sublattice of \(\Lambda^0_{\varphi,w,v}(0,a)\) contains an order copy of some space \(\ell^p\). Finally, the case when the measure of \(I\) is infinite is studied in Section 7. The paper contains also a lot of actualized information about the problem of the isomorphic theory of subspaces and sublattices in rearrangement invariant quasi-Banach function spaces, so it is interesting also as a source of information on this topic.
