The framework of the paper under review is provided by the Hamiltonian actions of reductive algebraic groups on irreducible normal affine Poisson varieties over an algebraically closed ground field \({\mathbb K}\) of characteristic zero. For a wide class of such Hamiltonian actions \(G\times X\to X\), one proves that the corresponding moment map gives rise to a quotient morphism \(\mu_{G,X}//G: X//G\to{\mathfrak g}//G\) whose fibers have the same dimension. For instance, this is the case for actions on generically symplectic varieties. Moreover, one takes a close look at the irreducible normal affine variety \(C_{G,X}\) given by the spectrum of the integral closure of \(\mu_{G,X}^*({\mathbb K}[{\mathfrak g}]^G)\) in \({\mathbb K}(X)^G\). This circle of ideas is related to the results of \textit{F. Knop} [Invent. Math. 99, No. 1, 1--23 (1990; Zbl 0726.20031), J. Algebra 258, No. 1, 122--136 (2002; Zbl 1038.53081), J.
