Consider a Riemannian spin manifold \((M,g)\) with non-empty boundary \(\partial M\). The author proves that, under suitable curvature assumptions, a solution to the extrinsic Dirac equation (with a function related to the mean curvature instead of an eigenvalue) on the boundary can be extended to a parallel spinor on the whole manifold. As applications, several rigidity results are proved, for example: If the scalar curvature of \(M\) is nonnegative (\(M\) compact connected) and if every component of the boundary is simply connected with nonnegative mean curvature and vanishing sectional curvature, then \(M\) ist flat. This generalizes and complements previous work by \textit{F. Hang} and \textit{X. Wang} [Pac. J. Math. 232, No.~2, 283--287 (2007; Zbl 1152.53034)] and \textit{V. Schroeder} and \textit{M. Strake} [Comment. Math. Helv. 64, No.~2, 173--186 (1989; Zbl 0692.53020)].
