Consider \(F\) a smooth \(C^{\infty}\) vector field on a smooth manifold \(M\), \(\Sigma_F\) the set of the singular points of \(F\) and the smooth maps \(h:M\to M\) that preserve the singular foliation on \(M\) by orbits of \(F\): \(h(\gamma)\subset\gamma\) for every orbit \(\gamma\) of \(F\). These smooth maps are discussed here with specific methods for flows. Since for every \(x\in M\) its image \(h(x)\) belongs to the orbit \(\gamma(x)\) of \(x\), it is required to associate to \(x\) the time \(\alpha_h(x)\) between \(x\) and \(h(x)\) along \(\gamma(x)\) such that \[ h(x) = F_{\alpha_h(x)}(x) \] This time is called shift function. The analysis of the paper deals with smooth shift functions. There are obtained new results for the case of the linear flows (concerning parameter rigidity). Next it is considered a vector field \(F\) which is locally defined around the origin which is its singular point. The analysis is performed by defining the structure of the \(\infty\)-jets associated to a certain group of diffeomorphisms of \((\mathbb{R}^n,0)\).
